Recruitment Dictionary
Bid: A formal invitation to join an organization
Chapter: The smallest self-supporting unit of an organization, which belongs to a large organization nationally
Formal Recruitment: A specific time of planned rush events during which PNMs have the opportunity to meet current members of panhellenic sororites on campus. At the University of Rochester, this takes place in the Spring, after winter break.
Informal Recruitment: A time of continuous open bidding, where there are no planned activities of rushing.
Initiate: Someone who has gone through a chapter's initiation process
Interfraternity Council (IFC): The governing council for men's fraternities who are part of the North American Interfraternity conference
Multicultural Greek Council (MGC): The National Multicultural greek council (NMGC) is an umbrella council for a coalition of Multicultural Greek-letter organizations (MGLOs) established in 1988. The purpose of NMGC is to provide a forum that allows for the free exchange of ideas, programs, and services between its constituent fraternities and sororities; to promote the awareness of multicultural diversity within collegiate institutions, their surrounding communities, and the greater community-at-large, and to support and promote the works of its member organizations.
New Member: Someone who has accepted a bid into an organization but who hasn't been initiated yet.
Panhellenic Council (Panhell): The governing council for all NPC sororities on Camus
Potential New Member (PNM): A collegiate woman who goes through recruitment
Recruitment Counselor (Rho Gamma): Someone who is already initiated into a sorority, but disaffiliates during recruitment to guide PNMs through the recruitment process.
